Why Information Warfare Is a National Security Priority

I am pleased to share that Nihon Cyber Defence (NCD) has successfully concluded a significant project with a Japanese government organisation. This initiative addressed the growing threat of information warfare on social media, a key challenge to national security. As adversaries develop sophisticated influence operations targeting Japan, we have delivered comprehensive analytical frameworks and training solutions that strengthen our nation’s resilience against these evolving threats.

Japan–Australia Cyber Partnership Using Advanced OSINT Technology

Our strategic partnership with Fivecast has proven transformative for this initiative. Since the start of our collaboration in 2022, we have leveraged their world-class AI-powered OSINT capabilities alongside our deep understanding of Japan’s unique security landscape. This partnership represents the type of international cooperation essential for addressing transnational threats. As leaders in our respective markets, our organisations have established an alliance that adds meaningful value to clients. I am particularly proud of how our team has collaborated with both Fivecast and our government partners to deliver outcomes that exceed expectations.

Research Insights on Detecting Social Media Influence Operations

The project has produced substantial strategic outcomes. Our teams have analysed influence operations across major social platforms, developing sophisticated methodologies for identifying coordinated activities. Most importantly, we delivered a training programme that give teams the tools and skills they need to operate effectively in this space. Why does this matter? Because it enables faster, smarter decision-making in the face of complex threats.

Operational Impact of AI-Powered Disinformation Detection

The strategic impact of this work extends beyond immediate operational improvements. We have built core capabilities that help our clients stay ahead of information threats instead of just responding to them. By combining advanced analysis with hands-on training, we have created lasting know-how that will continue to grow as the threat landscape evolves. This represents a significant evolution in Japan’s defence posture.

“The evolving nature of information warfare requires not just advanced technology, but trusted partnerships that truly understand each region’s unique landscape. Through our collaboration with Nihon Cyber Defence, we have tailored our OSINT solutions specifically for Japan’s threat environment—enabling both early detection and actionable insights into complex influence operations. We are proud to play a role in enhancing Japan’s national cyber resilience and look forward to building on this success as we face future challenges together.”

Strengthening Japan's Cyber Security Through Information Warfare Readiness

This project aligns with the broader strategic vision for Japan’s cyber security posture. We have contributed to the nation’s evolving security framework by establishing information warfare response as a distinct discipline. The methodologies developed have applications across government and critical infrastructure, strengthening Japan’s overall resilience. As information warfare increasingly affects both public and private sectors, this work provides valuable insights for developing integrated defence strategies.

Next-Stage Capabilities in Information Warfare Response

Looking to the future, I see significant opportunities to build upon these foundations. The threat landscape continues to evolve rapidly, requiring ongoing innovation in both technology and methodology.

At NCD, we are committed to leading this evolution, developing next-generation capabilities that address emerging challenges. Our experience with this project positions us uniquely to drive continued advancement in Japan’s information warfare response capabilities.

Building next-generation information warfare capabilities also demands a strong talent pipeline. The UK CyberFirst program provides a strategic model for workforce development aligned with national resilience objectives.

Is Your Organisation Ready for Influence Operations?

The lessons from this project have profound implications for organisations across all sectors. Information warfare techniques once directed primarily at national targets are now being deployed against corporations, particularly those in critical infrastructure, finance, and technology sectors.

Is your organisation prepared for sophisticated influence operations?

Have you assessed your vulnerability to coordinated disinformation campaigns?

Our experience from this project allows us to offer clear, practical guidance to private sector clients facing similar challenges.

I invite senior executives concerned about these emerging threats to contact us for a confidential strategic discussion. Together, we can evaluate your current posture and develop proportionate, effective countermeasures tailored to your specific risk profile.
