Nihon Cyber Defence and Fivecast Partner to Enhance Cyber Threat Intelligence for Japan

Supporting Cyber Security for Government, Businesses, and Critical National Infrastructure

NCD and Fivecast Partnership

Tokyo, Japan – January 17, 2025 – Nihon Cyber Defence (NCD) (HQ: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Cartan McLaughlin), a leading Japanese cyber security firm, and Fivecast (HQ: Adelaide, Australia, CEO: Brenton Cooper), a global provider of open-source intelligence (OSINT) solutions, have announced a collaboration to strengthen cyber threat intelligence capabilities in Japan. The partnership supports the Japanese government, businesses, and critical infrastructure operators with tailored insights to address evolving threats in the region.

The collaboration combines Fivecast’s advanced AI-powered OSINT technology with NCD’s expertise in cyber threat intelligence and Japanese cyber security needs, delivering actionable intelligence tailored to Japan. Fivecast’s solutions enable comprehensive data collection across the surface, deep, and dark web, while NCD ensures these insights are adapted to local contexts for effective mitigation strategies. Together, they work on projects with the Japanese government to enhance cyber threat identification to address cybercrime, counter disinformation, and strengthening resilience.

NCD CEO Cartan McLaughlin added, “This collaboration enables us to leverage Fivecast’s capabilities to deliver in-depth OSINT and combat disinformation in Japan. Our shared mission is to provide Japan with the capabilities to respond proactively to emerging risks.”

Malcolm Purcell, VP Sales APAC, Fivecast, said the collaboration mirrored the deepening nature of government and defence relations between Canberra and Tokyo, and that Fivecast valued NCD’s depth of experience and strong relationships at all levels of government in Japan. “Fivecast is proud to support NCD and the Japanese Government in their efforts to understand and counter disinformation and other persistent threats”, he said.

This partnership reflects a commitment to supporting Japan’s cybersecurity and intelligence efforts by combining emerging technology with localized expertise. Together, NCD and Fivecast are providing organizations in Japan with critical tools to address current and future security challenges.
