Sir Jeremy Fleming KCMG CB served as the 16th Director of GCHQ until 2023. GCHQ has a uniquely broad mission covering global intelligence, cyber security, and cyber operations. Prior to this appointment, Jeremy spent 25 years in MI5, finishing as Deputy Director General with responsibility for investigations and operations. He is an influential public voice on national security, cyber and technology and now advises global businesses on these themes.
As one of the UK’s leading cyber leaders, Sir Jeremy brings a deep understanding of the global security landscape and the rapidly evolving threats facing governments, critical infrastructure, and businesses. In addition to overseeing GCHQ’s response to various terror and cyberattacks, Sir Jeremy oversaw the establishment of the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, which focuses on cyber threats to the national infrastructure and, working with the Ministry of Defence, created the UK’s National Cyber Force to deliver offensive cyber operations.
Before leading GCHQ, Sir Jeremy served for over 25 years in MI5 gaining experience countering major national security threats and was key to the development of the UK’s counter-terrorism strategy.
Having had such a deep impact on the UK’s intelligence services Sir Jeremy now brings his cybersecurity expertise and perspective on geopolitics and economic security risks as they relate to Japan and the Japanese to NCD.
